18/0 vs 18/10 Stainless Steel Flatware

1.304 (18/8, 18/10) stainless steel: The top choice for high-quality markets

304 stainless steel belongs to austenitic stainless steel and is a highly advanced material that is widely used in food-contact products at present.

304 stainless steel typically contains about 18% chromium and 8% – 10.5% nickel, and therefore is also known as 18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel.

The chromium element can form a dense and stable chromium oxide passivation film on the surface of steel. This protective film can effectively prevent air and moisture from reaching the steel, thereby reducing the risk of oxidation.

Meanwhile, the nickel element can further enhance the stability of the passivation film, improving the product's resistance to chloride ions, acidic and alkaline environments, as well as long-term damp conditions.

304 SS exhibits extremely excellent rust prevention performance in daily usage environments, such as:

Kitchen oil-stained environment

Water-based cleaning

Humid climate

Long-term contact with food

Compared with other low-nickel materials, 304 stainless steel has better corrosion resistance and a longer service life.

Furthermore, 304 stainless steel is usually non-magnetic (it may have a slight magnetic property after processing). The material cannot be directly determined by visual inspection of the surface, but it can be preliminarily judged through professional component testing or magnetic testing.

Due to the superior food safety performance and quality characteristics of 304 stainless steel, it is more widely recognized by the markets in Europe and America, as well as by high-end restaurants and hotels.

2. 430 (18/0) Stainless Steel: A common choice in the economy segment market

Base Material: AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel (industry abbreviation: 18/0 stainless steel), 18% chromium content provides basic rust resistance,

nickel-free formula stabilizes costs and reduces the impact of nickel price fluctuations, meets FDA food contact standards, passes US food and tableware safety testing,

supports daily dishwasher cleaning, and meets the usage habits of American households and restaurant kitchens.

Surface Process: Cloth Wheel Polishing

Through multi-layer cloth wheel fine mirror polishing treatment, the surface is smooth and bright, reducing oil stain adhesion and making it less prone to bacterial residue;

Eliminating burrs and sharp edges, providing a smooth touch, suitable for the handling experience of Western tableware;

The overall mirror texture matches the American minimalist dining table style, balancing practicality and display aesthetics, suitable for supermarket shelf display and daily restaurant plating.

Comparison with ordinary shot blasting/simple polishing:

Cloth wheel polished tableware is resistant to repeated washing, less prone to dulling and discoloration, extending the life of the tableware, w

hich aligns with the 3-5 year replacement cycle of commercial tableware in the US market.
